Applications
- Electronics
Traditionally held as the best conformal
coating for high reliability, military and aerospace electronics (Mil-I-
46058C Type XY), Parylene has also found its way into commercial and industrial
markets. Strong, stable and secure, Parylene offers purity, maximum barrier
protection and total coverage; even beneath components. From sensing controllers
to parking meters, Parylene prevents failures and can eliminate the need
for expensive service calls.
- Magnetic Cores
- Using a tumble coating process, small
cores and bobbins are coated to provide electrical insulation and prevent
wire cut through. Neodymium iron boron magnets are coated to prevent corrosion:
an excellent substitution for Ni coatings. Used for a magnetic latching
mechanism, Parylene provides a lock down to prevent particulate contamination.
Because it is inert and biocompatible, Parylene is also used on magnetic
blood stirrers.
- Sensors
- With sensors becoming a more integral part of
our everyday lives, Parylene provides a void free and pinhole-free coating
to meet the most hostile environments. Transducers, Transponders, Strain
Gauges all benefit from the unique abilities and characteristics of Parylene
conformal coating. Some of the methods of measurement with which we work include
Microwave and RF, Acoustics and Piezo Electric. Sensor environments include
fresh and salt water, oil refineries, industrial facilities and heavy equipment
to name but a few.
- Medical Devices
Parylene is a biocompatible coating
that meets USP Class VI requirements. Some of the areas
where it is now being used are; Cannula, Hypo Tubes, Needles, Catheters
and all types of implants. Parylene offers dielectric isolation, particle
lock down, dry film lubricity and an ability to conform to all geometries. Companies
have also metalized over the coating to create a conductive path.
- Scientific Apparatus
- Used to coat the inside of tubes,
Parylene prevents surface affinity of fluids, providing high accuracy measurements.
Parylene provides this same effect on glass as well as preventing micro
ablating. Additional applications isolate the glass from PH etchants and
the contained solutions from lead and ionic contamination.
- Elastomers
- Reduced coefficient of friction and solvent
resistance benefit such products as silicone rubber key pads, o-rings and
seals.
